Psalm 39:7 (NLT)
7 And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in You.
A statue was unearthed in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday[a] that archaeologists hope to determine is that of Pharoah Ramses II, who died in 1213 B.C.E. after ruling in Egypt for more than 66 years.[b] Bible History Online summarizes the reign of Ramses as follows:
Ramesses II (also known as Ramesses the Great…) was an Egyptian pharaoh of the Nineteenth dynasty. He is often regarded as Egypt’s greatest and most powerful pharaoh, building more monuments, fathering more children, reigning longer than any other ruler of Egypt.[b]
Reading over these articles gave me a thought: “When will the ‘reign’ of the United States as the preeminent world superpower come to an end?” After all, only God’s Kingdom will last forever. In Daniel 4:32 (VOICE), the Bible says:
…it is the Most High God, and no other, who is the true sovereign over all kingdoms on earth, and He grants authority to anyone He wishes.
Egypt, in the time of Pharoah Ramses II, was the “big dog” of the world. We also know of the Babylonians (Iraq), Greeks and Romans who “ruled the world” at certain points in history. These kingdoms had their time of glory and then fell… hard. These countries; Egypt, Iraq, Greece and Italy; are nowhere near the top of the world superpower list now. The Bible, in James 1:10 (VOICE), refers to those who are exalted in the eyes of those around them:
10 If you are rich and seemingly invincible, savor the humble reality that you are a mere mortal who will vanish like a flower that withers in the field.
If the Lord tarries His second return, the day will come when the United States will fall, just as the world dominates before them. That being the case, where does your hope reside? If your hope and trust reside in the freedom and comforts of the United States, they have been sorely displaced… Only God’s Kingdom will last forever.
